RARE monograph on a renowned Jewish Talmudist Abba Arikha (175-247CE) (born Abba bar Aybo), a 3rd century amora who lived in Sassanid Babylonia and established at Sura the systematic study of the rabbinic traditions, which, using the Mishnah as text, led to the compilation of the Talmud. With him, around the year 220, began the long period of ascendancy of the great academies of Babylonia. He is also commonly known simply as Rav or Rab [Raw; Rabh]. 200x135mm. XI+83 pages. Black patterned rebound Softcover. Cover wavy. Ex-library copy with stamp on title page and page 27 bottom edge. Title page browning. Ink inscription on title page upper corner. Small ink mark on pages 13/14 edge - no damage to text. Pencil underlining and notes on some pages. Several pages rough-cut. Pages yellowing, age-stained and slightly wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare monograph on a fascinating and influential Amora is in good condition.
