He was curator of the Department of Near Eastern Antiquities at the Louvre Museum and a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres. Contains author`s b&w portrait on title page verso and 15 b&w fold-out maps. 245x170mm. LII+632 pages. Brown cloth rebound Hardcover with gilt spine. Front cover slightly dirty, bottom edge slightly bumped. Spine edges bumped. Previous owner`s small stamp on second whitepage upper corner and title page bottom edge. Corner/s of most pages bumped/slightly wrinkled. Some pages edges slightly wrinkled. Pages facing the fold-out maps age-stained/yellowing. Text block edges yellowing. Pages slightly yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare book by the leader of the French excavations in the Middle East and one of the founders of the archaeology journal `Syria`, is otherwise in good condition.
