RARE first edition of a monograph on the interpenetrating medieval mystic Jewish, Christian and Muslim sources of Zohar (Book of Splendor), the main work in the literature of Jewish mystical thought known as Kabbalah, by Rabbi Ariel Bension (1880-1932). This work earned him an election to the Royal Academy of History in Spain, while his book is cited in the bibliography of the most influential work on Jewish metaphysical historiography, Gershom Scholem`s `Major Trends in Jewish Mysticism`. The author completed this work in Cairo in January 1931 and died at the end of its year of publication, in November 1932. Contains 6 illustrations. 220x145mm. XXII+256 pages. Red cloth Hardcover with black lettering on spine. Cover curved and stained. Front cover edges and spine faded/yellowing. Cover corners worn, bottom edge rubbed. Rear cover upper edge and spine edges bumped. Spine slightly stained, upper edge tattered. Small writing on spine bottom edge. Inner cover, whitepages, title page and few extreme pages age-stained. Several pages inner edge near binding age-stained. Ex-library copy with stamp on front whitepage. Text block edges slightly stained. Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare book, renowned for its exposition of the relationship of Kabbalah to Sufism, is in good condition.
