RARE annotated critical edition of the original Sanskrit text of `Panchatantra`, which some scholars believe was composed around the 3rd century BCE and is attributed to Vishnu Sharma. 215x140mm. [94+39] + [89] +[83] pages. Marbled quarter-cloth Hardcover. Cover rubbed and scratched. Cover edges worn. Spine rubbed. Spine edges peeling. Small pencil notes near text on few pages. Text block edges slightly stained. Pages yellowing. [VOL.I]: Title page detached from binding, edges partly cut/tattered - no damage to text. Pencil notes on first page. [VOL.II]: Page 14 upper edge and page 91 upper corner taped with transparent sellotape (no damage to text). Page 87/88 detached from binding - no damage to text. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare critical edition of an ancient Indian collection of animal fables in Sanskrit with English notes, edited by two eminent Indologists, is in good reading condition.
