SIGNED BY AUTHOR - Moses Eleazar Eisenstadt (1869-1943), an eminent rabbi, educator, and author in Russia and France. Born in Belorussia, he studied at the yeshivah of Volozhin, and from 1889 at the university and `Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums` in Berlin. He wrote his doctoral thesis on "Bible Criticism in Talmudic Literature" in 1898. From 1899 to 1910 Eisenstadt officiated as government-appointed rabbi of Rostov, and from 1911 to 1923 held the same position in St.Petersburg. He subsequently immigrated to France, and in 1926 was appointed rabbi of the Ohel Ya`akov community of the Russian Jews in Paris. He also lectured in modern Hebrew literature at the rabbinical seminary. 210x140mm. 54 pages. Cloth rebound Hardcover with original softcover pasted on front and rear. Cover yellowing, stained and curved. Cover edges and corners peeling. Rear cover upper edge bumped. Spine wrinkled. Spine edges slightly peeling. Inner cover wrinkled. Binding visible between few pages. Small hole anjd several tears on pages 48-49 inner edge near binding due to the two pages partly glued together (with damage to several letters of the text, but easily reconstructible). Few pages age-stained. Pages yellowing and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare book is otherwise in good condition.
