RARE collection of scholarly papers in German and Hebrew published in memory of Rabbi David Kaufmann (1852-1899) - an eminent Jewish-Austrian scholar whose books and articles covered nearly every branch of Jewish science (as the 546 items listed in the bibliography published in this volume show), also known as one of the main teachers and the librarian of the Rabbinical Seminary of Budapest. Kaufmann was a pioneering scholar in the field of Jewish art, arguing that ancient Judaism was not strictly opposed to images. Kaufmann passed away the year before the publication of this book. Among the authors of the articles are the leading scholars of the age, such as Adolf Büchler, Ignaz Goldziher, Wilhelm Bacher, Moritz Steinschneider, Hermann Cohen, Samuel Poznanski, Immanuel Löw, Ludwig Blau, Leopold Löwenstein, Theodore Reinach, Moses Gaster, Israel Abrahams, Abraham Berliner, Gustav Karpeles, Samuel Krauss and many others.
