The fables are derived from both Berachyah`s own inventions and borrowings from Aesop`s fables, the Talmud, and the Hindus fables. Illustrations for this edition were prepared by Leo Michelson (1887-1978), a Latvian-American artist considered part of the École de Paris, although his works span many periods and styles.
