RARE annotated critical edition of the original Arabic text of the primary work by the eminent medieval Jewish philosopher Bahya ibn Paquda written in 1040 under the title Al Hidayah ila Faraid al-Qulub (Guide to the Duties of the Heart), with extensive introductions to the work and various manuscripts by Abraham Shalom Yahuda (1877-1951) - a notable linguist and translator of many ancient Arabic documents including various works of pre-Islamic poetry and medieval Judeo-Arabic texts. 235x165mm. [43]+[49]+[XVIII]+[116]+[407] pages. Maroon leather Hardcover with gilt spine. Cover somewhat stained. Spine edges and hinges rubbed. Text block upper edge stained/age-stained. Whitepages and few pages slightly age-stained. Pages yellowing. [FIRST TITLE]: Page 38 edge worn. Few pages bottom corner creased. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare annotated critical edition of one of the key texts of Jewish thought is in good condition.
