Description
RARE FIRST EDITION of the first volume of what was intended as a two-volume work on quantum mechanics by Max Born (1882-1970) and Ernst Pascual Jordan (1902-1980). This volume was limited to the work Born did with Jordan on matrix mechanics, while the second volume was to deal with Erwin Schrödinger`s wave mechanics. However, the second volume was not even started by Born, as he believed his friend and colleague Hermann Weyl had written it before he could do so. 220x145mm. XI+434 pages. Red cloth Hardcover. Cover and spine rubbed and stained. Cover corners bumped. Cover corners, fore edge and spine edges peeling. Spine hinges cracked, but taped. Sticker and previous owner`s name written in pencil on front whitepage. Pages and text block edges slightly yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare first edition of a classic scientific monograph is otherwise in good condition.
