RARE facsimile edition of the first scientific publication on Jerusalem and its sites, which has been the basis for all future Jerusalem research, carried out in 1865 by a team of men of the British Royal Engineers Ordnance Survey headed by Captain Charles Wilson. The book contains numerous b&w plates and photographs, as well as a separate folder with maps, plans and views of Jerusalem - altogether there are 28 plates, 6 plans and 78 photographs (numbered 1-43, some photographs appear under the same number but with small letter, such as 1a,1b,2a,2b, etc). [FOLDER]: 300x235mm. 6 folding maps/plans + 4 folding photographic views. Folder rubbed and slightly scratched. Folder front slightly stained. Folder edges and hinges rubbed, front hinge slightly peeling. [BOOK]: 280x220mm. 90 pages + XXX plates + 78 photographs + 25 pages. Maroon cloth Hardcover with illustrated dust-jacket. Jacket wavy and rubbed. Jacket edges and corners wrinkled/worn, spine rear hinge upper edge tattered. Cover and spine dust-stained. Spine edges bumped. Inner cover and few pages slightly age-stained. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare facsimile edition of a 1856 Ordnance Survey of Jerusalem, a unique 19th century historical document of interest to anyone dealing with the history of Jerusalem and Ottoman-ruled Holy Land, is in good condition.
