Description
SIGNED BY AUTHOR WITH DEDICATION dated 1974. Dr. Gisella Perl (1907-1988 was a Jewish gynecologist who lived in Sighetu Marmaţiei, Romania, until 1944, when the Nazis invaded a part of Romania illegally through Hungary and deported its Jewish population. In June 1948, Perl published the story of her incarceration at Auschwitz, detailing the horrors she encountered there as an inmate doctor, such as operations on young women`s breasts without anesthetics, using a knife as her only instrument which were observed by a warden who derived pleasure from their suffering, and other atrocities. The author`s photograph as an inmate is reproduced on dust-jacket. 225x145mm. 189 pages. Blue cloth Hardcover with dust-jacket. Jacket rubbed and slightly yellowing/dirty. Jacket edges worn/tattered. Jacket spine edges party missing. Author`s dedication written in pen on pre-title page. Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare book, written (in author`s words) "as a monument commemorating the events of the years 1940-1945, Nazi bestiality, sadism, inhumanity, and the death of their six million Jewish victims", signed with dedication by the author, is in good condition.
