Description
TWO BOOKS: COPY No.21 of RARE LIMITED FACSIMILE EDITION OF 300 COPIES of a large collection of responsa by Benjamin Ze`ev ben Mattathias of Arta (Epirus), who flourished in the first half of the 16th-century. As a result of his lenient decisions on an agunah, Benjamin Ze`ev was severely criticized by David ha-Kohen, Joseph Taitazak, and others. He replied in his Binyamin Ze`ev, containing 450 legal decisions and responsa, completed in 1534 at Venice, where it was published five years later. The second title is an introductory volume to `Sefer Ze`ev Binyamin` by one of the most prolific scholars of Jewish studies and a leader in the use of Hebrew manuscript sources Meir Benyahu (2009 1926). [BOTH VOLUMES]: 240x180mm. [602 double pages] & [235 pages + 16 double pages]. Cover yellowing. [MAIN VOL.]: Quarter-leather grey cloth Hardcover with gilt ribbed spine. Cover edges bumped. Cover corners rubbed. Spine rear hinge rubbed. [INTR.VOL.]: Grey cloth Hardcover with gilt front cover and spine. Cover and spine slightly stained. Spine bottom edge bumped. [SUMMARY]: These two volumes - an extremely rare facsimile edition of an important source for the economic and religious life of the Jews of Greece, Turkey and Asia Minor, together with an introductory volume, are in good condition.
