RARE first history of Bene Israel - the Jewish community of India by Haeem Samuel Kehimkar, an educator who founded in 1875 a Marathi and Hebrew elementary school named the Israelite School. The manuscript of this work was completed in 1897, but the author was unable to secure the funds to publish it, and it was finally published fifty years later in Jerusalem by the late Dr. Immanuel Olsvanger. 245x170mm. VIII+290 pages & 28 plates. Illustrated Hardcover with cloth spine. Cover and spine rubbed, stained and slightly curved. Cover edges and corners slightly bumped. Spine edges slightly peeling. Pen or pencil inscriptions/underlining on inner cover, whitepages and several pages. Several pages slightly creased. Text block bottom edge stained. Pages slightly yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare book on Indian Jewish community is otherwise in good condition.
