RARE EDITION of a selection from `Irish Melodies` by Thomas Moore (1779-1852) - an Irish poet, singer, songwriter, and entertainer, best known for `Irish Melodies` (published also under various titles, such as `Songs of Ireland`, `Irish Tunes` etc.) which became enormously popular throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, for example `Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms`, which is included in this volume. Moore began writing these poems following a request by the publishers James and William Power to write lyrics to a series of Irish tunes with Sir John Andrew Stevenson as arranger of the music, and eventually the poems were published in ten volumes and a supplement between 1808 and 1834, the musical arrangements of the last volumes after Stevenson`s death (1833) being done by Henry Bishop.
