The editor - Jacob Zallel Lauterbach (1873-1942) was an American Judaica scholar and author who served on the faculty of Hebrew Union College and composed responsa for the Reform movement in America. He specialized in Midrashic and Talmudical literature, and is best known for his landmark critical edition and English translation of the Mekilta de-Rabbi Ishmael. [ALL VOLUMES]: 175x115mm. [LXV+255] + [292] + [271] pages. Blue cloth Hardcover with gilt emblem on front cover and gilt lettering and ornamentation on spine. Gilt text block edges. Purple cloth bookmarks inbound. Cover corners and spine edges rubbed. Spine edges wrinkled. Text block edges, inner cover and pages yellowing. [VOL.II]: Pen notes on front whitepage. Small pen underlining near English text on pages 1, 33, 115. Binding slightly visible between front whitepage and title-page. [VOL.III]: Small pen underlining near Hebrew text on pages 177-179. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare three volume critical edition of a classic Jewish exegetical treatise is in good condition.
