Description
RARE Passover Haggada illustrated by Jacob Steinhardt (1887-1968), an eminent Israeli woodcut artist and painter. The first edition of this magnificent Haggada was first published in 1921 in a limited edition of two hundred signed and numbered copies. In 1923 a smaller, cheaper version was published by Ferdinand Ostertag, and despite the many mistakes that appeared in this edition, it was acclaimed by the Jewish press all over the world and made Steinhardt famous as a woodcut artist. The present facsimile edition is based on Goeritz original edition and preserves both its size and the quality of its execution. Includes an introduction by Ziva Amishai-Maisels (b.1939) - an eminent researcher of modern art, both Jewish and non-Jewish, Professor Emerita at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 345x245mm. Unpaginated (56 pages). Hardcover with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Cover slightly curved. Cover corners and edges rubbed. Cover upper edge water-stained. Cover and spine yellowing. Spine rubbed and age-stained. Spine edges bumped and worn. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare facsimile edition of Passover Haggadah, beautifully illustrated by one of the most important 20th-century Jewish graphic artists, is in good condition.
