RARE comprehensive collection of tombstone inscriptions in Hebrew, Portuguese and Spanish from Jewish burial grounds in Jamaica from 1663 to 1880, with five illustrations, eight b&w plates, concordance of the names, chronological index and index of languages. the locations of the inscription include Hunt`s Bay, Kingston, Spanish Town, Annotto Bay, St.Ann`s Bay, Falmouth, Montego Bay, Lucea, Savanna-la-Mar, Lacovia, and Rowe`s Corner. Richard David Barnett (1909-1986) was the Keeper at the Department of Western Asiatic Antiquities of the British Museum, was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1962 and made a CBE in 1974. He was also a visiting Professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, in 1974-75. 280x220mm. XXVIII+201 pages. Illustrated Hardcover. Cover slightly dirty. Cover bottom corners slightly bumped.
