Description
RARE FIRST EDITION of shorter writings by the eminent German Jewish theologian, philosopher, and translator Franz Rosenzweig (1886-1929), renowned for his major philosophical-theological work `The Star of Redemption`, and his collaboration and friendship with the renowned German Jewish scholar Martin Buber (1878-1965), with whom from 1925 until his death he translated the Hebrew Bible into the German language (Buber completed the work after Rosenzweig`s death). This collection of writings is divided into four parts: Zur jüdischen Erziehung, Vom Wesen des Judentums, Über Sprache, Altes und neues Denken (essays on Judaism and philosophy: on Jewish education, on language, on the essence of Judaism, on old and new ways of thinking and Hermann Cohen`s Jewish writings). 240x160 mm. 278 pages. Yellow board Hardcover with black lettering on front cover. Cover yellowing/age-stained and slightly stained. Cover corners bumped and peeling. Cover edges bumped. Spine missing. Inner cover and several extreme pages age stained. Ink writing on front whitepage. Some page edges age stained. Pages bottom corner slightly bumped/wrinkled. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare first edition of essays by one of the leading 20th-century Jewish philosophers and theologians is otherwise in good condition.
