RARE LIMITED EDITION OF 500 COPIES designed and printed in Verona by Stamperia Valdonega on Favini laid paper. FACSIMILE EDITION of an anonymous medieval text `The Alphabet of ben Sirach` (Alphabetum Siracidis) dated to anywhere between 700 and 1000 CE. The text is a compilation of two lists of proverbs, 22 in Aramaic and 22 in Hebrew, both arranged as alphabetic acrostics. Each proverb is followed by an Haggadic commentary. The work has been characterized as satirical and contains references to masturbation, incest and flatulence. The text has been translated into Latin, Yiddish, Judeo-Spanish, French and German, and partially into English. (1998). This is a facsimile of the Constantinople 1519 edition. 205x140mm. 38 pages & 176 unpaginated facsimile pages. Grey board Hardcover. Black ornamentation on both covers. Black lettering on spine. Cover bottom part water-stained. Cover corners and edges slightly bumped. Front cover bottom corner peeling. Slight peeling mark on rear cover. Cover and spine rubbed. Spine edges bumped and worn. Spine rear hinge slightly bumped. Rear inner cover edge slightly lumpy. Front whitepage upper corner and several first pages (incl.title-page) slightly wrinkled. Small grease stain on contents page - NO damage to text. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare facsimile edition of an important Jewish medieval satirical work is otherwise in good condition.
