FIRST EDITION of the diaries by Theodor Herzl (1860-1904, born Benjamin Ze`ev/Binyamin Zeev) - an Austro-Hungarian journalist, playwright, political activist and writer who was one of the fathers of modern political Zionism. In his diaries Herzl described in details how he formed the World Zionist Organization and promoted Jewish migration to Palestine in an effort to form a Jewish state, from the beginnings of personal visions and literary efforts describing the Land of Promise to political movement encompassing Jewish communities from all over the world. Each volume contains three different portraits of Herzl pasted on whitepage following the title page. 5kg. [ALL VOLUMES]: 240x170mm. [648] + [620] + [661] pages. Half-leather marbled Hardcover with gilt lettering on spine. Text block upper edge gilt. Cover rubbed and slightly stained. Cover corners bumped and peeling. Cover edges rubbed. Spine heavily rubbed and somewhat stained. Inner cover and whitepages slightly age-stained. Text block edges dirty. Pages yellowing and rough-cut (as published). [VOL.I]: Spine upper edge and hinges upper part peeling. Bump-mark on spine. [VOL.II]: Spine edges bumped. Spine upper edge peeling. [VOL.III]: Spine upper edge bumped. Inner cover age-stained. Several extreme pages slightly age-stained. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare three volume limited numbered first edition of diaries by the Visionary of the State of Israel and one of the most important figures in modern Jewish history is overall in good condition.
