RARE second edition of the travelogue of the black sea region by famous 18th-century playwright and traveler Lady Elizabeth Craven (née Berkeley) (1750-1828), Princess Berkeley (often styled "Margravine of Brandenburg-Ansbach"), an author, playwright, traveller, and socialite, best known for her travelogues. Includes three engraved plates, one fold-out. 200x265mm. 328 pages. Quarter-cloth rebound marbled Hardcover. Gilt lettering on spine. Frontispiece map and engraved plates nos.I,II MISSING. Cover and spine worn and stained. Cover corners and spine edges bumped. Spine has small tear on front hinge, several worm marks and residue from removed library tag. Front whitepage, title page and first page coming loose from binding. Small red ink underline on title page. Ex-library copy with small stamp on title page and first page. Few worm-marks extending from rear cover well into the book - one reaches the front cover. Worm-mark on fold-out plate edge near binding. Pages yellowing, mildly age-stained and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare book has unfortunately sustained damage due to negligent library care, but is still in good condition for its age, and remains quite readable. We have reduced the book`s price significantly due to to the above mentioned damage.
