RARE FIRST EDITION of a short non-fiction book by Joseph Roth written in 1926-27 about the plight of the Jews in the mid-1920s who, with other refugees and displaced persons in the aftermath of the First World War, the Russian Revolution and the redrawing of national frontiers following the Treaty of Versailles, had fled to Western Europe from the Baltic States, Poland and Russia. The cover of this first edition published by Die Schmiede in Berlin was designed by George Salter (1897-1967), born Georg Salter - originally German, and from 1940 onwards US-American designer and set designer who revolutionized book cover design and is best remembered for his design for Alfred Döblin`s `Berlin Alexanderplatz`. 190x125mm. 103 pages [+1]. Hardcover. Cover worn and slightly stained. 2 stickers on front cover. Front cover corners and spine edges bumped and peeling. Cover edges slightly bumped.
