תיאור הספר
RARE collection of papers on modern "information theoretical" formulation of statistical mechanics initiated by the author in 1957. The opening papers stress the surprisingly wide scope of inference in statistical physics, while the papers which follow demonstrate the central importance of consistency in statistical inference. Edwin Thompson Jaynes (1922-1998) was Wayman Crow Distinguished Professor of Physics at Washington University in St. Louis. He wrote extensively on statistical mechanics and on foundations of probability and statistical inference, initiating in 1957 the MaxEnt interpretation of thermodynamics, as being a particular application of more general Bayesian/information theory techniques (although he argued this was already implicit in the works of Gibbs). Jaynes strongly promoted the interpretation of probability theory as an extension of logic. 225x155mm. XXIV+434 pages. Hardcover with dust-jacket. Gilt lettering on spine, embossed emblem on front cover. Jacket hinges and upper edge bumped/wrinkled. Jacket partly yellowing and slightly dirty. Jacket spine bottom part missing, upper edge tattered. Cover corners, bottom edge and spine edges bumped. Pages slightly yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare collection of papers by an eminent physicist is in good condition.
