RARE FIRST EDITION of a play by Arnold Zweig (1887-1968), a German writer and anti-war and antifascist activist, best known for his six-part cycle on World War I. In 1920 Zweig rewrote and published this play under the title "Die Sendung Semaels". 195x135mm. 126 pages. Quarter-cloth brown marbled Hardcover with gilt lettering on spine. Text block upper edge dyed red. Cover and spine rubbed and slightly stained. Cover corners and edges rubbed. Bump-mark on rear cover upper edge. Spine edges bumped. Pages slightly yellowing and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare first edition of an early work by an eminent German-Jewish writer is in good condition.
