תיאור הספר
RARE ORIGINAL EDITION of an English translation of the biography of Saladin (An-Nasir Salah ad-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub) (1137-1193) - the first sultan of Egypt and Syria and the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty who led the Muslim military campaign against the Crusader states in the Levant. The biographer - Baha` ad-Din Yusuf ibn Rafi ibn Shaddad (Bohadin; Boha-Eddyn) (1145-1234) was a 12th-century Muslim jurist and scholar, a Kurdish historian of great note who was an eye witness at the Siege of Acre and the Battle of Arsuf, thus providing us with a valuable chronicle of the Third Crusade and the biography of Saladin whom he knew well. Ibn Shaddad was Saladin`s close friend, and was appointed by him to several high administrative and judicial offices. Contains 4 fold-out maps (Western Palestine; Battlefield of Hattin; Syria in the Middle Ages, after Arab Geographers; Plain of Acre and Vicinity) and 1 plan (of Acre). 230x150mm. XX+420 pages [+4 unpaginated pages of The Library of the Palestine Pilgrims` Text Society catalog]. Red cloth Hardcover with gilt front cover and spine. Cover and spine rubbed and slightly stained. Cover corners and spine edges bumped. Spine faded/yellowing. Binding very slightly visible between inner cover and whitepages. Whitepages, pre-title and last additional page age-stained.
