RARE compilation of all 1858 and 1859 issues of the "Jüdisches Volksblatt" (5th and 6th Jahrgang), a weekly German-Jewish periodical edited by Ludwig Philippson, an eminent 19th-century German rabbi and writer on Jewish themes, renowned for his translation of the Old Testament. One of his main aims in publishing the `Jüdisches Volksblatt` was the emancipation of his Jewish fellow men, while at the same time to entertain and tighten the Jewish population to its culture.
