תיאור הספר
RARE collection of 24 paintings of Warsaw Ghetto by Henryk Hechtkopf (1910-2004). Born in Warsaw, Hechtkopf studied law and at the art academy concurrently and between 1932-1939 participated in the exhibitions of the city’s `Jewish Society for the Advancement of the Fine Arts`. Following the outbreak of the war, he fled to the Soviet Union, while almost all his family was murdered during the Holocaust. After the end of the war, he returned to Warsaw, and for two years drew the "Ghetto Warsaw" cycle. He moved to Lodz, reestablished that city`s `Jewish Artists Society`, and taught at the Lodz Film School. In 1949 he designed the first stamp issued in the world dedicated to the Holocaust, and in 1957 immigrated to Israel, where he worked as graphic designer and illustrator of children`s books. 345x245mm. 24 separate plates & 2 separate text pages. Soft folder format. Folder worn/wrinkled and slightly age-stained. Ex-library copy with sticker on spine, front inner cover and Hebrew text page. Hebrew text page worn/wrinkled. Adhesive tape residues on Hebrew text page. English text page slightly worn/wrinkled. Pen inscription on rear inner cover. Small pen inscription on English text page upper edge and light residue adhesive tape on bottom edge. Adhesive tape residue and small pen inscription on first plate verso. Light age-stains on edge (white-frame) of one plate - no damage to drawing. Library stamp on edge (white-frame) of two plates - no damage to drawing. Edges and corners of plates slightly bumped/worn - no damage to drawings. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare artistic documentation of post-war Warsaw Jewish neighborhoods by a Holocaust survivor, depicting destruction and ruin which express the artist`s distress and the feeling of loneliness he felt as a survivor after the Holocaust, is in good overall condition.
