RARE! First edition of Sefer Mekore Minhagim by Joseph Finkelstein, which was one of the most well-known cases of plagiarism in 19th century Hebrew literature. The book deals with the various Jewish customs, and attempts to ground them in the Jewish holy texts. The book was originally published 5 years earlier in Berlin by Jewish rabbi and scholar Abraham Lewysohn, and was plagiarized by Finkelstein, a Galician rabbi. 170X110mm, 24 double pages. Marbled quarter-cloth hardcover. Cover slightly worn. Cover edges bumped. Spine slightly torn at one of the hinges. Previous owner`s name on title page. Pages yellowing with few aging stains. Save for some light wear, this rare and well-known edition is in good condition.
