RARE album of ancient masterpieces of 65 Japanese and 35 Chinese painting, ranging from the reign of the Empress Suiko down to the close of the Tokugawa period in the Japanese section, and the T`ang, Yüan and Sung dynasties under the heading of China. Each plate is preceded by a separate leaf with descriptive text printed on one side. 435x310mm. 100 plates & 120 pages [all plates and pages printed on a single side of the leaf]. Green illustrated cloth string-bound Hardcover. Gilt text block edges. Marbled endpapers. Cover rubbed and slightly stained. Cover edges and corners peeling. Spine missing, spine residues tattered. Text block edges stained and worn. Binding loose and visible on inner cover. Some damp stains on bottom edge/corner of rear inner cover, whitepage, last plate and page. Plates slightly age-stained. Text pages age-stained. Pages and plates slightly yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare high-quality album of Japanese and Chinese painting masterpieces has sustained some external damage, but is internally in good condition.
