Description
SIGNED BY EDITOR - EPHRAIM DEKEL with DEDICATION dated 1948. This extremely rare album contains about 175 b&w photographs documenting the "Berihah" (or Bricha/Bericha), the great exodus of European Jews following the holocaust, who illegally crossed the borders of Soviet-occupied lands and made their way as illegal immigrants to the shores of Palestine. Special sections of this album are dedicated to children and orphans who took part in this immigration effort, and another section documents the famous journey of the ship Exodus. The book contains short texts and image captions in English, Hebrew and Yiddish. This copy is signed on the title page by the editor, Ephraim Dekel, a high-ranking Haganah member and one of the architects of the "Berihah". 240x340mm. Unpaginated. Black quarter-cloth Hardcover. Cover rubbed. Cover edges and corners peeling. Spine edges bumped. Ex-library stamps and pen marks on title page (not on text!). Whitepages, title page and several pages wrinkled. Pages slightly yellowing, age-stained and wavy. [SUMMARY]: Save for the aforementioned damage, this rare documentation of the perilous journey of the illegal Jewish immigrants is in good condition.
