Description
LIMITED EDITION of 750 COPIES. RARE book of over a hundred fables, called Mishle Shualim (Fox Fables) written by the 13th-century Jewish exegete, ethical writer, grammarian, translator, poet, and philosopher Berechiah ben Natronai ha-Nakdan. The fables are derived from both Berachyah`s own inventions and borrowings from Aesop`s fables, the Talmud, and the Hindus fables. Illustrations for this edition were prepared by Leo Michelson (1887-1978), a Latvian-American artist considered part of the École de Paris, although his works span many periods and styles. Introduction and table of contents are in German. 225x155mm. XXII+122 pages. Black board Hardcover with beige leather spine. Gilt emblem on front cover. Gilt lettering on spine. Cover rubbed. Cover edges worn/peeling. Cover corners bumped and peeling. Spine stained/dirty. Spine gilt partly rubbed away. Text block edges age-stained. Inner cover yellowing and age-stained. Pages slightly yellowing, age-stained and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare exquisitely illustrated book of fables in Hebrew is in good condition.
