Description
RARE TWO VOLUME SET French translation of "Some Thoughts Concerning Education", a treatise on the education of gentlemen written by the English philosopher John Locke (1632-1704) - an English philosopher and physician regarded as one of the most influential of Enlightenment thinkers and known as the "Father of Classical Liberalism". Written in 1693, this treatise was considered for over a century the most important philosophical work on education in England, was translated into almost all of the major written European languages during the 18th-century, and nearly every European writer on education after Locke, including Jean-Jacques Rousseau, acknowledged its influence. [BOTH VOLUMES]: 165x100mm. XIX+560 pages (pagination: XIX+264/265-560). Brown leather Hardcover with gilt spine. Text block edges dyed red. Cover and spine worn, stained and partly peeling. Cover corners and spine edges bumped and peeling. Binding slightly loose and visible between inner cover and whitepages. Pages yellowing, slightly age-stained and wavy. [VOL.I]: Ink writing on front whitepages upper edge/corner. Several pages corner wrinkled/creased. Small worm-mark on rear whitepages - NOT penetrating into text pages! [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare 2 volume French translation of one of the most important Enlightenment era works is in good condition for its age.
