A View of London about the Year 1560
Reduced to this Size from a Large Print in the Collection of Sr. Hans Sloane Bart. anno 1738

Description
RARE. A 1738 reproduction of a 1560 map of London prior to the great fire. Buildings are drawn in partial perspective, with several landmarks appearing. A list below the map serves as a key for any building that could not be labeled directly. A caption explains that this map was reduced in size from one found in the collection of Sir Hans Sloane, 1st Baronet, a physician and president of the Royal Society after Newton. 470x320mm. The entire map is hand-painted with water-colors, though they are somewhat faded. The map is yellowed, with visible creases, as well as very small holes scattered around the edges. Remnants of a mirror-image stamp visible in bottom-left and bottom-right corners of the map, over the list of locations and part of the map itself. The map is set in a thin black-and-gold frame, with embossed patterns. The frame is somewhat worn and lightly damaged. Overall, this 18th century map is in good condition for its age.
