The author of the commentary - Eduard Georg Seler (1849-1922), was a prominent German anthropologist, Americanist scholar and epigrapher who made extensive contributions towards the study of pre-Columbian era cultures in the Americas with his pioneering studies on ethnography, documents and history of Mesoamerican cultures. Contains numerous b&w illustrations. [BOTH VOLUMES]: 290x290mm. 265+280 pages [with 586+304 b&w figures]. Embossed/gilt cloth grey/red Hardcover. Cover and spine stained. Cover upper corners bumped. Spine edges bumped. Text block edges slightly stained. Ex-libris sticker on front inner endpaper. Few extreme pages wavy. Pages slightly yellowing. [VOL.I]: Signed dedication on front whitepage upper edge/corner. [VOL.II]: Front cover lumpy. Binding slightly visible on front endpaper. Rear endpaper partly glued. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare extensive commentary on a key Mesoamerican manuscript by one of the luminaries of Mesoamerican religious studies is otherwise in good condition.
