Description
RARE BILINGUAL HEBREW/SPANISH EDITION of the prayer book used by Jews on the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, translated from the original Hebrew to Spanish by an eminent Argentinian Rabbi Marcos Mordejai Edery (1928-2010). The introduction and notes were supplied by Marshall T. Meyer (1930-1993) - an American Conservative rabbi who became a recognized international human rights activist while living and working in Argentina from 1958 to 1984, during the period of the "Dirty War" in the 1970s, and after the restoration of democracy in 1983 was awarded the nation`s highest honor, the Order of the Liberator General San Martín, by the new president. In Argentina Meyer also led a congregation and founded `Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano`, a Conservative Judaism rabbinical school in Buenos Aires that has trained generations of Spanish-speaking rabbis. 205x150mm. 500 pages. Dark blue cloth Hardcover with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Cover slightly curved. Cover and spine rubbed, faded and slightly stained. Cover corners and spine edges slightly bumped/wrinkled and slightly worn. Binding coming loose and visible between inner cover and whitepages. Pencil inscriptions and two small stamps on front whitepage. Text block edges dirty. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare Jewish prayer book with an authoritative Spanish translation is otherwise in good condition.
