RARE children`s book entitled by the renowned prolific English writer Herbert George Wells (known as H.G.Wells) (1866-1946) who wrote in many genres, including the novel, history, politics, social commentary, and textbooks and rules for war games. This German translation was authorized by the author and lavishly illustrated by the renowned children books` illustrator J. R. Sinclair, with additional illustrations for the German edition by Trude Hammerschlag. This book, originally called "Floor Games", describes mostly pacific games for young children offering various imaginative geographies to play the "game of wonderful islands" in which the floor is the sea, create the setting for "twin cities", or undertake engineering projects, such as the building of funiculars, which are described in some detail. 245x220mm. 75 pages. Illustrated board Hardcover rebound with original cover and new cloth spine. Cover yellowing, rubbed and stained/age-stained. Front cover slightly wrinkled. Cover corners and edges bumped and worn/peeling. Spine hinges slightly stained. Dedication dated 27.9.1955 written in ink on front whitepage. Pages yellowing and age-stained. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare and beautifully illustrated German translation of a fascinating children`s book by H.G.Wells, regarded as a precursor not only of learning through play but also of nonverbal child psychotherapy, is overall in good condition.
