RARE COMPLETE HEBREW TRANSLATION of "The Divine Comedy" - a long narrative poem by Dante Alighieri (c.1265-1321), begun c. 1308 and completed 1320, a year before his death in 1321. It is widely considered the preeminent work of Italian literature and is seen as one of the greatest works of world literature. This first complete translation of "The Divine Comedy" into Hebrew was carried out by Immanuel Olsvanger (1888-1961) - an eminent Jewish folklorist, translator, journalist and Zionist activist. Aside "The Divine Comedy" he has translated Bocaccio`s `Decameron`, Goethe`s poetry, Bhagavad Gita from Sanskrit, Japanese poetry, and many other works into Hebrew, and published a poem book with his own Hebrew poems. This edition contains b&w reproductions of illustrations to the `Divine Comedy` by the Early Renaissance Italian painter Sandro Boticelli (c.1445-1510). [VOL.1]: 185x115mm. 192 pages.
