RARE FACSIMILE AND INTRODUCTORY VOLUMES of The Birds` Head Haggadah (c.1300) - the oldest surviving illuminated Ashkenazi Passover Haggadah produced in the Upper Rhine region of Southern Germany in the early 14th century. The introductory volume contains 52 b&w plates. The facsimile of the elaborate Haggadah itself contains two full-page miniatures and margin illustrations on 33 pages, and was printed in Vienna. [BOTH VOLUMES]: 290x205mm. [160] + [96] pages (facsimile volume unpaginated). Quarter-leather maroon board Hardcover laid in maroon board slipcase. Gilt illustration embossed on front cover. Gilt title-labels pasted on beige leather spine. Text block upper edge gilt. Slipcase faded and dirty/dust-stained. Slipcase spine edges bumped and worn. [FACS. VOL.]: Slipcase corners slightly peeling. Cover corners slightly bumped. Spine bottom edge slightly bumped. Label edges peeling. [INTR. VOL.]: Slipcase hinges partly torn. Label rubbed. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare two volume set of a unique beautifully illustrated medieval Haggadah with an accompanying introductory volume is in good condition.
