RARE collection of studies dedicated to Shlomo Moussaieff on the occasion of his 80th birthday. The nineteen scholarly articles included in this collection reflect Mr. Moussaieffs fields of interest: biblical studies, ancient history, archaeology, west-Semitic epigraphy, and iconography. The twenty-four scholars from around the the world, all of whom are friends of the recipient, are: Robert Deutsch, Yitzhaq Avishur, Pinhas Artzi, Jacob Klein, David Elgavish, Dan Barag, Mark Geller, Tuviah Kwasman, Martin Heide, Michael Heltzer, Arie Kindler, Wilfred G.Lambert, André Lemaire, Dan Levene, Edward Lipinski, Meir Lubetski, Aren M.Maier, Bezalel Porten, Ada Yardeni, Beatrice and Mirjo Salvini, Peter G.van der Veen, Ran Zadok, and Irit Ziffer. All articles are in English, except two: in Hebrew by Irit Ziffer, and in French by André Lemaire. This copy is from the library of one of the editors, the world-renowned epigrapher and member of the Faculty of Humanities at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Ada Yardeni (1937-2018). Yardeni had authored numerous publications, among them "The Book of Hebrew Script: History, Palaeography, Script Styles, Calligraphy & Design" (London: The British Library, 2002), which is considered the authoritative text on the subject. Includes numerous b&w illustrations and a color full-page plate with color photograph of Shlomo Moussaieff. 275x210mm. 272+16 pages. Turquoise cloth Hardcover. Gilt front cover and spine. Cover and spine slightly rubbed and somewhat stained. Cover corners and spine edges bumped. Previous owner`s inscription in Hebrew on front whitepage upper edge/corner. Pencil notes on pages 150 and 157 - both by Ada Yardeni. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare collection of studies, of particular interest to Semitists, archaeologists and scholars of Ancient Near East and Old Testament, is in good condition.
