RARE book dedicated to the life and work of an eminent Jewish Ukrainian-French painter Issachar Ber Ryback, also Riback (1897-1935), a contemporary of the Jewish-Russian artists Natan Issajewitsch Altman, Boris Aronson and Marc Chagall, known for handing down the Jewish tradition in modern art. Includes a large portrait of Ryback as frontispiece, 32 full-page reproductions of his works (some in color) and essays by Arnold Zweig, Mane Katz, Marc Chagall, and others. 330x225mm. 94 pages. 32 plates. Beige leather embossed Hardcover. Cover curved, rubbed and slightly stained. Spine rubbed. Spine and spine edges/hinges rubbed. Front endpaper slightly stained. Front inner cover and whitepages, as well as several first pages slightly age-stained - NO damage to frontispiece. Plates 13-25 detached from binding (as a result, binding coming loose and visible between plates 12-26). Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare illustrated monograph on an influential modern Jewish painter is otherwise in good condition.
