LIMITED EDITION of 975 COPIES. This RARE ILLUSTRATED FIRST EDITION of a book of poems by the eminent Imagist poet, author and authority on modern painting - John Gould Fletcher (1886-1950), was inspired by Japanese poetry. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas to a socially prominent family, Fletcher was the first Southern poet to win the Pulitzer Prize. The illustrations that accompany the poems are by Dorothy Pulis Lathrop (1891-1980), a renowned American writer and illustrator of poetry and children`s books, famous for her illustrations of many collections of children`s poetry by Walter de la Mare, and many authors` children`s fictional literature, among them works by Rachel Field, Helen Dean Fish, W.H.Hudson, Hans Christian Andersen, Hilda Conkling, George MacDonald, Jean Ingelow, as well as her self-authored `The Lost Merry-Go-Round` and `The Colt from Moon Mountain`. More than thirty-eight books were published with her illustrations, and she wrote and illustrated nine children`s books and several topical nonfiction books. 195x135mm. 94 pages [+2]. Pages 83/84 upper edge slightly torn- NO damage to text/plate. Pages yellowing and rough-cut as published. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare poetry book by one of the most innovative 20th-century poets, of whom Amy Lowell said: "No one is more absolute master of the rhythm of verse libre", is in good condition.
