RARE fifth edition oof the famous utopian novel "Altneuland" by the founder of political Zionism - Theodor Herzl (1860-1904) in 1902 (in English the novel`s title is "The Old New Land", in Hebrew - "Tel Aviv" "Mound of spring"). "Altneuland" became one of Zionism`s establishing texts and was translated into Yiddish by Israel Isidor Elyashev and into Hebrew by Nahum Sokolow as "Tel Aviv", which led to the city of Tel Aviv, founded in 1909. Text in Gothic lettering. The front cover contains an illustration of biblical Moses beholding the Promised Land. 185x125mm. 343 pages. Illustrated cloth Hardcover. Cover rubbed and age-stained/stained. Cover coming loose. Cover corners bumped and peeling. Spine missing. Spine hinges tattered/peeling. Front whitepage and title-page detached from binding (but present) and have worn edges /corner. Page 1/2 and half of page 3/4 MISSING (probably torn-out). Pages yellowing and age-stained. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare second edition of Herzl`s legendary novel has sustained the loss of the first two pages, but is otherwise in good reading condition.
