RARE FIRST EDITION of the account of Theodore and Mabel Bent, a married couple of British explorers who traveled from modern day Oman through Yemen to the west coast of the Red Sea and finally to Socotra, in the late 19th century. The account is reported by Mabel, after Theodore had died upon returning to England. The book contains 6 detailed fold-out maps of the visited regions with the couple`s travel path clearly marked, as well as a few dozen full-page plates, mostly photographs taken by the couple during their travel. The account describes both the history of the locales visited, the historical and archaeological sited they encountered, as well as the daily experience of the explorers themselves. [ATTRIBUTES:] 150x225mm, X+448pp. Red cloth hardcover with gilt lettering on spine. [CONDITION:] Golden emblem on front cover faded away. Outer page block edge slightly dirty. [SUMMARY:] This first edition of a 19th century travel journal is in excellent condition for its age.
