RARE 4th Edition of Jeremy Taylor`s `Great Exemplar`, a book of Anglican ecclesiastic prose famous for its fluent style. The book features 5 b&w woodcuts, depicting scenes from the life of Christ in the style of the period. 305x210mm. XL+IX+542 pages [+ 28 unpaginated pages]. Original leather Hardcover with ribbed spine. Gilt title on spine. Both covers decoratively engraved. Contains several full-page and smaller engravings, with two frontispiece engravings. Cover worn, slightly stained and mildly scratched. Cover edges worn, corners bumped and/or tattered. Front hinge worn and blackened. Spine slightly fading. Upper edge slightly peeling. Faded ink inscription by previous owner on back of first frontispiece. Both frontispiece edges slightly worn (no damage to the engravings). Water stain on title page and the following page bottom corner (no damage to text). Water stain on page II bottom corner (no damage to text). Few occasional age-stains in various places, overall almost no age-stains. Pages slightly yellowing and slightly wavy. [SUMMARY]: Despite all above-mentioned wear, this considerably old tome is in remarkable condition for its age.
