RARE book on 19th-century Palestine by the Rev. James Aitken Wylie (1808-1890) - an eminent Scottish historian of religion and Presbyterian minister, most famous as the author of the classic "The History of Protestantism", first published in 1878. This book contains a frontispiece and many b&w illustrations of the Holy Land 196x135mm. XVI+384 pages. Original brown cloth embossed Hardcover with gilt front cover and spine. Rear cover stained. Cover corners and spine edges bumped and worn/peeling. Spine hinges rubbed. Ex-libris sticker on front endpaper upper corner. Dedication dated 25.12.1884 on first whitepage upper part. Bookseller`s small sticker (from Perth) on rear whitepage on rear whitepage bottom corner. Binding slightly visible on front inner cover. Bottom corner corner of front whitepage, title-page and page V fingerprint-stained. Pages 39-42 and 241-256 detached from binding (but present and in good condition). Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare and beautifully illustrated memoir of the Holy Land by a prolific author and influential personality in the Presbyterian Church is otherwise in good condition.
