RARE monograph on the liturgies of the Assyrian god Tammuz by an eminent American-born British Assyriologist - Stephen Herbert Langdon (1876-1937). The book includes six b&w plates depicting copies of old texts in an ancient Babylonian language. One plate depicts old Babylonian seals. Also included are a loose set of photocopies of these plates, made by previous owner. 153x226mm. VII+196 (+6 unnumbered plates). Grey board Hardcover. Cover slightly stained and yellowing. Cover corners bumped and worn. Cover, whitepage and title page very slightly loose near top side. Spine yellowing. Spine hinges cracked and worn/partly peeling. Spine edges bumped and worn. Text block edges yellowing. Front and rear whitepages browning/age-stained. Small stamp on front whitepage upper corner. Title page somewhat rumpled near binding. Title page bottom part coming loose from binding. Binding visible between pages II-III. Pages slightly yellowing, slightly wavy and rough-cut (as published). [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare book, written by one of the leading experts in the field of ancient Near Eastern religions, is otherwise in good condition.
