FIRST EDITION of a prose work depicting the story of a Jewish woman named Rachel Otby by Louis Magloire Cottard (1790-1871), who was the headmaster of the Academy of Strasbourg. Although Cottard was Catholic, he wrote several passionate books on Jewish themes. His most famous work is the book "Souvenirs de Moïse Mendelssohn", a treatise on the life of the German-Jewish philosopher. 92x141mm. 212 pages. Black cloth Hardcover. Includes transparent nylon dust jacket. Text block upper edge dyed black. Jacket wrinkled and somewhat tattered. Cover corners slightly worn. Spine edges bumped and peeling. Spine title label yellowing. Text block edges browning. Last text page dirty/stained (text still readable!). Pages yellowing and slightly age stained.
