Werblowsky is one of the world`s leading scholars in the field of comparative religious studies and hence also a contact person in the study of Buddhist scriptures. This book includes Buddhist Peta-stories and the traditional commentaries on these stories by the early commentator Dhammapāla. In Buddhism, Petas are so called "hungry ghosts", controled by desires which cannot be fulfilld. This causes them an indescribable feeling of hunger and thirst - due to this circumstance they are called "hungry ghosts"(=Petas). There are numerous stories about Petas and a number is presented in this book. 142x222mm. XVII+314 pages. Brown cloth hardcover with gilt lettering on spine. Bottom spine edge lightly bumped. Page edges very lightly yellowing. Signature and dedication on whitepage. All pages very slightly yellowing. This book is in good condition.
