EXTREMELY RARE single volume containing both first issues of the Hebrew quarterly "Ha-Zman", which was published from 1903 to 1913 in Saint Petersburg, in thick volumes which contained Hebrew literary works and scientific papers (mostly on the topics of Judaism and Jewish History) by the foremost scholars and authors of the time. These issues contain pieces by Hayyim Nahman Bialik, David Frishman, Micha Josef Berdyczewski (Bin-Gorion), Jacob Fichman and others. These issues further contain various articles, including literary criticism, various biographies, a study on the development of the Jewish Haskalah in Russia, and a long article on the Yiddish language and literature, accompanied by a comprehensive list of Yiddish translations of the Jewish scriptures. 200x130mm. 143+XVI+52+167 pages. Black quarter-cloth Hardcover. Cover worn and slightly stained. Cover corners and edges bumped and worn. Spine stained. Spine bottom edge wrinkled. Pen inscription on spine. Library stamps on title pages, whitepages, first and last text pages. Pages 25-30 of the first issue MISSING. Single wormhole on upper shoulder from endpaper to page 118 of first issue. Single wormhole extends on outer shoulder from rear endpaper to page 155 of second issue. Few pencil marks on some pages of second issue. Pages yellowing and age-stained. [SUMMARY]: This rare early 20th-century periodical of educated Russian Jewry is in good reading condition.
