SIGNED BY JOACHIM-YEHOYACHIN STUTSCHEWSKY (1891-1982), a Ukraine-born Austrian and Israeli cellist, composer, and musicologist. After studies with Julius Klengel in Leipzig, Stutschewsky moved to Jena (where he founded the Jena String Quartet and served as the 1st cellist of the symphony orchestra), then to Switzerland, and finally to Vienna, where he and Rudolf Kolisch founded the Vienna String Quartet to perform both Schoenberg`s music and the classical string quartet repertoire in a manner that would take into account the principles of Schoenberg`s teaching. Schoenberg directed many rehearsals of this quartet. Numerous works were written for this quartet by preeminent composers such as Alban Berg, Anton Webern, Schoenberg, and Béla Bartók.
